As parents with active children who play sports know, and soccer moms are particularly well versed in this, injuries are going to happen.  And while ice and a hug are great remedies, over-the-counter anti-inflammatories and pain medications are usually part-and-parcel of a soccer mom's bag of tricks.  These are considered safe and effective. However, aspirin and ibuprofen (e.g. Advil, Motrin) can often cause stomach upset and acetaminophen (e.g. Tylenol) can, with long term use, contribute to damage of the liver. Researchers are now rediscovering the anti-inflammatory and anti-pain properties of cannabidiol, also known as CBD oil  While probably best known for its efficacy in treating severe forms of childhood epilepsy (see Charlotte's Web), CBD oil, derived from hemp, has numerous other benefits, is one of nature's most effective anti-inflammatories and has no known side effects.  Unlike its cousin, marijuana, hemp has virtually 0% THC, the compound associated with marijuana's "high" making hemp CBD oil particularly useful for children.  Over the last several years, use of non-psychoactive hemp CBD oil has increased among retired professional athletes, most notably Jake Plummer, former quarterback for the Denver Broncos. Hemp CBD oil is available in many forms: tinctures, capsules, paste, gum, energy bars, teas, and the list keeps expanding.  Most potencies range from 3% to 15% CBD, and can go even higher.  While there is no prescribed serving size, manufacturers typically recommend starting with 3-5 mg (milligrams) per serving and tier up or down as you determine the most effective amount. So the next time your aspiring Hamm or Messi is hurting, consider hemp CBD oil.  It can't hurt, and it could very well help.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact Hybrid Health at customersupport@hybridhealth.us.
